TEEN RETREAT 2020
2-day, 1-night camp for ages 14 through 19
DATES: March 28 - 29, 2020
LOCATION: Epworth Forest Conference Center in North Webster, IN
At Camp Good Grief in 2009, the camp directors watched how our teens interacted so well together. Although the teens were very much part of the whole group, it was clear that they enjoyed their time together as true peers. So beginning in April of 2010, we offered the first Teen Retreat! Teen Retreat allows up to 25 teens ages 14-19 to enjoy an overnight retreat together, to work on their grief, and to enjoy time designed just for them.
Teen Retreat is hosted at Epworth Forest Conference Center in North Webster, Indiana. The teens arrive on Saturday morning and, after a celebration with their family at 10:00 am on Sunday, they head for home. This overnight retreat provides a setting that is safe and comfortable for the teens as they learn how to adjust in their lives as a result of the death of a loved one. This experience can provide a decreased sense of isolation and the feeling that they are the only person in the world that is experiencing these thoughts and emotions.
We have found that the teens return from the retreat with stronger, improved skills and resources necessary to identify and express their emotions in positive ways, allowing them both respect and dignity in their personal grief journeys.
Teen Retreat was specifically designed to help teens explore and express their feelings associated with the death of a loved one. In addition to enjoying typical camp activities like a zipline, rock wall, fishing, and bonfire, the teens also participate in activities that introduce and enhance emotional skills.
